| | Finally Got'm. First Trophy.
I'm 18, just got my first trophy. This is southeast Manitoba. http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g2...6/IMG_2164.jpg http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g2..._2173-Copy.jpg http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g2...6/IMG_2157.jpg
I was just laying in this field. He came up behind me about 150 yards. I waited for him to put his head back down,t hen I turned around. It was getting dark, and I only saw antlers once he was in my scope, and when I did, I didn't know he was this big. I thought he was closer too, but he's just so big it only looked like it. I'm a big guy, but he's neck is like the size of my waist! That's what I like about bucks around here, they're not tiny deer with racks way bigger than they should have. :P

Thanks guys.
When I smile really hard you can tell I'm smiling, but a regular smile on me just looks like a neutral face. That's what's in the picture. Oh well.
So next year do I hunt the same area? I know nothing about how close large bucks live to eachother, how quickly another moves in etc... Should I move a bit, or hunt the same spot?
I wasn't using anything for called, lures, cover scents, except a simple scent killer. Next year I want to get some antlers to rattle, and some hip waiders to walk some creaks. And I guess buck urine or something to go with the antlers perhaps.

You should be able to hunt the area next year, I'm sure you could hunt it again this year if you really wanted to. If that was the domanaint buck in the area then another buck will probably move in by next year, or the 2nd rank buck will take over.

| | It is the rut. You could have another big one there tomorrow. It is all about the does. If they are there he will come. All it takes is one whiff and they will travel miles right now. |

I would have got a video, but I rushed and just wanted to get him before I did something stupid and scared him away. I mean he had no idea I was there, but I guess I need practice being around big bucks.
