Here is the Savage 99 in 250-3000. It's a 1948 a little older than me! I put an old B&L 4X scope on it just for looks until I can get a new one. Not bad for a 62 year old, the gun not me.
Hope you get many years of happy hunting with it. Father in law has a Savage 99 that he bought as a young teen in .300 Savage. He still has it, too. It's in really good shape as well. I think yours might be just a year or two older that his (the rifle I mean - come on guys, keep your minds out of the gutter).
WD, all the 99's look this way with scopes. The rear base is higher than the front one. Makes them look a bit strange but it works. I used weaver bases and rings. Son had to let me know what my Christmas present is so I wouldn't go on-line and bid for one. Problem now is I probably won't shoot it till spring. I guess I could ask for an early Christmas!:whistling:
