thought I read somewhere that the western elk herds have been pretty much decimated by the reintroduction of wolves. in fact many elk and or other big game hunters were pretty much considering it a waste of time.

NO, didn't read it. was a video on here somewhere.

Default Wolves in Wyoming

It must be remembered that wolves are indigenous to this region but have been reduced in numbers from depredation. Wyoming still boasts large populations of Big Game, certainly not decimated and the management of big game through predators is restoring the balance without wolves would lead to over population, dependence on humans and feedgrounds and widespread disease such as brucellosis. Interestingly enough you never hear these rumors about wolves decimating big game in Idaho or Utah, yet wolves don't know the meaning of state boundaries and I am sure they are in those states as well.
