As with many things, in optics you normally get what you pay for and good quality means spending some $$. I've owned a lot of scopes over the years, I'd say well over 100 and still have around 60 scopes on rifles. As far as good value and decent glass, I think Nikon Prostaff is a good scope, I've owned four 2-7x32 Prostaffs and they are good scopes.
Next up the ladder I like Redfield 2-7x33, Weaver 1-3x20 and Leupold VX1 1-4x20 and 2-7x33. If you spend a little more now, it may well save you $$ in the long run and be a good scope for you for many years to come.
