If you could have one Muzzleloader?? I would like a authenic Sam Hawken rifle. This would fill my rifle needs and then some to own one of his masterpeices. I knew when I built my Hawken rendition it would only be a HM rendition but to have one of the Master's rifles pretty awsome. What's your dream ML'der? |
I already own it. A Traditions Vortek Ultra Light in Camo. I guess I am a simple person. It shoots straight and it is light. |

Keeping in mind, "If you could have one Muzzleloader??" For me, it would be something like this, but right handed: http://www.dillonsflintlocks.com/images/fowler01.jpg http://www.flintlocks.com/images/rifles/RK-06.jpg It's a Pennsylvania Fowler in 20 ga. smoothbore. I could use it for hunting any kind of game, large or small. |
for me it would have to be a full blown custom rifle, flintlock of course in high end curly maple. I too am a simple man! |
I am curious. Can smoothbores shoot a round ball fairly accurate? I've never shot a flintlock before. |
According to military records the British stated that a smooth bore musket was accurate out to 50 yds after that just hitting a man sized target somewhere at 100 yds was considered lucky. A rifled flintlock was very accurate out to 100 yds and could shoot 150 with fairly good accuracy. Reports of 200 yd hits are fairly well reported. |
Awesome info! So for that Penn Fowler, what would be the best bullets for large game? Probably buckshot right? Or at 50 yards or less, use a 0.600 round ball? |
Patched round ball for big game. Shot for small game. |
