Default pyrodex / 777 mixture

A freind said that he uses a mixture of pyrodex pellets and triple 7 pellets in his smokepole. Not sure why. Anything wrong with that?

I'm no expert and I don't know the hazards of mixing black powder but I don't think it's a good idea to mix any black powders granular or pellet form
and you would do well to discourage your friend from doing it also.
Good luck and Welcome to the Club...

Hi bill jo and welcome to the club!
Unless you are a brave chemist I don't think mixing anything besides a drink is a good idea!

My guess is Pellets are designed to burn at a specific rate, different than powders like pyrodex. I would highly discourage your buddy from experimenting and stay with conventional loads. With today's ML performance there is absolutely no reason to mix up your own concoction.

Exactly, and the pellets have the quick ignite powder on the bottom. "The darker colored powder".. Ive actually heard of people doing this and turning their load into a pipe bomb.

In this case, both the Pyrodex and the 777 are in pellet form, as the OP said. But I agree, don't mix different powders. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

Never mix powders. It's against all recomendations and shortens your odds for dissaster. Good Luck
