A hard christmas VERY hard Christmas this year as I had to give my lil 2 year old girl up for adoption today. It was a very hard decision for me to make and even more painful when i went through with it. Especially being only 3 days away from Christmas. But, my 2 year old CVA Accura went to a good home and im sure i will be happy with the .54 great plains rifle i traded for  I had one in flintlock but didnt like it that much so when this popped up, i bit. Lots of work to do on it to get it where i want but it will be fun! What did you guys think i was talkin about?!! http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/m...m/GPR54002.jpg |
FG, wasn't sure there for a minute, but I understand now! I should get that 1/2 stock Hawken project around the 4th to see what I've got myself into. Now I will have to clean my work bench/area find all the drill bits/taps ect lay everything out and take stock of needs. |
I was almost crying for a moment there. |
Dude thats not even funny. I was already calling you every bad name i could think of. |
GPR came in today! After scrubbing the bore clean and then JB pasting it, i took it out to 50 yards with 100gr JSG 3f, .015 patch and .530 round ball. Didn't group well at all. Was going to call it quits but then remembered i had some thicker .018" pillow tick patches in a little tin than were unlubed. Poured down 110gr JSG 3F, stuck the patch in my mouth and sucked on it, grabbed a ball, laid the patch across the bore and rammed the ball home. Took 2 shots and they were touching! I didnt even use my lead sled today and i pulled it off LOL. Took 2 more shots with 100gr JSG 3F and the same tight patch combo and ended up with 1 1/4" group. Not bad, but just like the last GPR i had, a powder pig! http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/m...n/DSCN1384.jpg http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/m...n/DSCN1382.jpg Even got a mold too which looks to be a heck of a lot better quality than my Lee mold. http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/m...n/DSCN1385.jpg http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/m...n/DSCN1386.jpg I got some loads ready for the morning of 110gr American Pioneer 3f, .020" patch and .530 round balls. We'll see how that does off the Lead Sled . |
I remember using a 535 ball and .010 pre-lubed patch in my GPR flint lock. Probably one I should have kept. |
FG your a sick puppy:wacko: Had me going there for a mminute. |
Took her out again today. She hated the .020" patches so i switched back to the .018 pillow tick and got a decent group at 50 yards. I was using 110gr 3f american pioneer this time and it did ok. Room for improvement. Tomorrow i will try charges of 70gr and 90gr APP 3f and see how she do. http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/m...n/DSCN1414.jpg http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/m...n/DSCN1418.jpg http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/m...n/DSCN1420.jpg |
whew... Your a hoot, had me there... man you have a bunch of knowledge Frontier. I have learned more seeing your posts just from one night then I have in months trying to gather knowledge on my own. |
