Default change in plans?

I was a little bored today so I decided to take a walk.Went to an area I have hunted in the past and had no luck. Well on the way in saw a huge buck. Got to the area and there was a couple of big scrapes and a few rubs. Didn't stay long don't want to spook him. Was gonna set up a stand in another area but never saw a buck like this! Only does. What to do hunt the buck or put meat in the freezer?

I guess it depends on what type of hunter you are. Trophy hunter or meat hunter. Maybe you could intend on hunting the buck but still take any first meat chances.

Well, I think there is no better time than the next 3 weeks to kill a good buck. If it was me I would hunt the buck and forget about the freezer for a while. There is plenty of hunting season left to kill does. Another thing is that this big buck will probably be hanging out not far from the does. You might consider sitting downwind from the doe bedding area that way you may catch him checking things out early afternoon, or if he doesn't come maybe you will get a shot on a doe. It's really personal preference, but that's what I would do.

If the big boy is in rut you may have a short window that his guard is down. I would hunt the big buck and let all others get a free pass for the next couple of weeks.

Good luck,
