stupid question, can you bore sight a muzzleloader?

I assume that a person can bore sight a muzzleloader, is this correct? Also, has anyone used the powder sticks Jim Shockey advertises?

I bore sighted my TC Truimph last year.. I used an el cheapo adjustable bore sighter that I got as a Christmas present 1 year. It adjust from like a .22 to a 50 cal. I put the bore sight in my 30-06 that I knew was accurate and then placed it in my 50 cal and placed the laser on the same spot that my 30-06 was hitting on the target. (I did this at like 10 yds down my hallway in my house) It got it close enough to hit paper at 50 yds. Dont let a bore sight take the place of range time.. I dont trust them that much. If i use them I do it on a new set-up just to help me save a few shots at the range. If I had to pay someone to do it I probably wouldn't do it all. I would just start out at very low yardage and then gradually move out.

No I havent used the powder sticks. Hopefully someone else on here can help you out.

I'm going to be doing a bunch of shooting but just wanted to get the scope "close" so I can actually hit paper at 50 yards. Thanks for the info.

Buckfever covered that one right on the money. Your second ? is yes. It does not seem to be quit as powerful as say Pyrodex but man talking about clean. Hey that stuff gets the thumbs up from me. You don't have to swab every shot and at the end of the day cleans in a tenth of the time. Less corrosive too.

great news about the powder, any idea of cost -vs- pyrodex pellets?

$1 a box cheaper.

Yup...

Bore sighting is much easier than people think. The last scope I mounted on my t/c encore, I bore sighted in my living room. The encore is even easier than other guns because it breaks down the way it does. Simply by eying thru the empty barrel with the breach plug removed and then the new scope. You just need to be sure the gun is not able to move. I've bore sighted 2 shotguns and 3 muzzleloaders and my .270 this way. Sure its not the professional way to do it but who want to wast the money on something you'll never really use. Everytime I was on paper the 1st round at 50 yrds and in the black within 2 rounds with consistant accuracey. Then from there I step up to the distances that I want to be zero on my cross hairs Laugh all you want but You'll be surprised..
