flintlocks

I have two flintlocks to get sighted in because I installed peep sights on them. My good hunting buddy from Michigan will be coming, this is a first for him to use a flintlock. PA late season begins after Christmas and runs to Jan 10th. I plan to spend a week chasing deer around the woods to fill a tag. Hopefully they will have some snow on the ground.

With my buddy having the heart problem the PA hunt may change, I hate hunting alone and probably not a good thing for me to do anymore????I'm sitting on tags for PA and Ohio

Went to the range today and sighted in two flintlocks. I am very pleased with the front globe and rear peep sight arrangement I installed. I really lucked out as each rifle was on paper with the first shots and just had to dial in from there. I was having a tough time using open sights and the peeps cleared my vision up perfectly.

Flintlocks are more accurate and give along effective range because of their spiral grooves of rifling. But on a muzzle-loading firearm they take more time to load because of tight-fitting ball, and after repeated shots black powder tended to foul the barrels.

All of what you stated is what makes flintlock hunting the best!! Hunting the old way brings a certain satisfaction that few chose to enjoy. It's a blast, no pun intended
