Shock Waves For Deer?
hi,im a newbie here and just got a new omega . i got the scope pretty much dialed in today,i was using a 300 grain shockwave. the gun seemed to like them but i have heard of some horror stories about them not expanding on impact and guys losing deer .any out there ever have this happen.? if you use them whats your take on them?
Greetings deer dude, welcome to the club, glad to have you aboard...
Many hunters who use the shockwave bullets have great success with them
I've also heard and read where some hunters loathe the shockwaves...
Expansion is always a concern when shooting wild game and no matter how
the manufacturers trie to calculate it, My personal opinion is that a lead
bullet is probably always going to have the edge on impact and expansion
when compared to similar bullets with polymer tips BUT the polymer tips will
probably have the edge with regards to deeper penetration....
I think the bottom line is as follows, "A vital hit is a vital hit" so to me
Accuracy is the most important factor, If the animal is hit in the Vitals
I don't think the make or model of the bullet is really going to matter.
just my opinion and I use Shockwaves too... :w00t:
Welcome deer dude. Bruce said it well. (as usual) I have yet to shoot a deer with a shockwave but switced to them last year. Just did not see the deer to take. Alot of my hunting buds use them and have had good success. I have yet to hear a story from them about losing a deer due to shockwaves performance.
Hope this helps.
I also switched to shockwaves from powerbelts for accuracy reasons. As Bruce describes shot placement is key so run with the bullet that offers the best accuracy. I also shoot an Omega that hungers for the 250 gr shockwave.
I use the Barnes 250gr hollow points with great success and accuracy. Heard good things about shock waves but with all of the success with Barnes I don't see a reason to change. 100% agree with Bruce about well placed shots.
