195 grain Barnes sabot 45 cal

Does anyone use these for hunting deer. I have been shooting them and they
have been shooting pretty well but I wonder how the performance on deer is?
Any kind of input is appreciated. I'm using a load of 100 grains of blackhorn (by volume) with a standard Winchester 209 primer.
Thanks for your input in advance

Wish I could help but I use 250 and 290 gr ML bullets. I like the Barnes line up and have used them but in the 250 gr weight.

I have a .45 that I am going to be working loads up on, how was the consistency of your groups? Have not shot a deer with a ml bullet less than 250 grains but those were devastating so I would imagine losing 55 grains would not be to much different. Those 250's were out of a 50....

Deerless, I don't know if I should be taking advice from a guy named deerless???
Lol
No I get it, been there too many times myself.
I haven't gotten out to try them yet but will let you know how they do.
I'm sure they will shoot well but the 50 grain difference will be the difference.
When I shot the 200 gr 45s a while back they shot quite well but penetration was lacking, so I'll let you know, hopefully soon.

Thanks Daddus looking forward to any info you may have about .45 caliber performance and I will share my findings as well. As far as the screen name at the time that I joined this club I was just that "deerless" however I have since grown as a hunter and am successful on a consistent basis.

Just got back from the range. Shot my encore pro hunter in 45 cal with barnes 195 gr bullet. I actually held 1 1/4" four shot group, which anymore is good for me. Unfortunately muzzleloader season doesn't come i9n in Maryland til Oct 17,18 & 19th. I'll let you guys know how actual penetration and performance do after that. Based on a crono reading from a 200 gr .45 bullet last year with 110 gr of blackhorn, I'm thinking they might just do fine. At least I don't think they will break up like the "hornady 200 gr" did last year.

PS I think we should change your name to deerfull??? lol

Good luck sounds like it is grouping decent....just need a season. Got the sight in for the side lock I have...put fiber optics on. Just looking for some free time to get to the range. Our season starts first week of November and runs most of the month. Cannot wait...
