Longest Round Ball shot?

On the other thread, the topic got into ft lbs of energy and such.

Whats the longest shot you've taken big game at and what was your load?

140 yards on a cow elk, 223gr home cast round ball, .018 patch, .530" round ball and 80gr Pyrodex RS. Single shit to the lungs put her down within 60 yards.

My second longest shot was 40 yards but tricky as it was a head shot with a Traditions Kentucky .50cal Flintlock with 110gr goex 3f, .015" patch and .490" speer round ball. No tracking job as it rolled over onto him back at the crack of the shot. lol

40-45 yds with TC maxi-ball, went end to end on a big Ohio doe. Most of my ML shots are under 40 yds.

Not hunted to much with round balls & my tc new englander 54 cal. It hangs over the fireplace most days. Longest shot ever took with it on game would be about 50 yards. Took a few deer within this range. Would not press it much more then that. With this load

Powder: Goex 2f
Charge: 80 grains
Projectile: Hornady .530 roundball pillow tick patch, moose milk lube
Distance: 50 yards

Changed my avatar its a old pic not bad for a lead ball.

Very nice what yardage did you take it at. Did he drop in his tracks? Sorry just seen your original post that states 40 yards.
That's amazing I could not make that shot in the dark at 40 yards. let alone a head shot. Why a head shot on a buck tho he has a nice rack.

It was very late in the evening and I didnt want him running away.

I practiced a LOT that year with the flintlock and I knew where i would be hitting.

Doe in the back was shot with a CVA Hawken 50cal with a 295gr powerbelt at 100 yards.
