fencing your plot?
has anyone else tried this? i just put 2 plots in earlier this week and put up about a7ft fence around one and left the other open, im hopping the fence will let the seedlings get a better foot hold before they get mowed down by deer at least thats the idea lol, im just wondering if anyone else has had any success with this?
I read an article about protecting seedlings from Deer and the article talked about Plantra Deer Tubes,
I don't know what the costs of those things are but there were good reports around the internet about them. Good Luck...
ive done it twice in the past. ive actually gotten video of year and a half olds and up jumping my 7ft fence from a standstill. for the most part though it helped a lot. i too only fenced one of my plots and there was a definite difference in the browse pressure. im assuming that since they had easier access to the unfenced plot, they ignored the one with the fence. there were some tracks inside the enclosed portion, but when they had mowed the winter peas to the ground in the open plot, the fenced plot still stood around 18inches high. my biggest problem came from bears climbing the fence.
my fence is that soft orange plastic that moves alot and had no breaches last time i was up to check but ill be taking it down my next trip up if its established its self enough thanks for post ur results :)
