Deer Hunting With An Empty Gun!

I finally fessed up this huntin' season to the 4 guys I stay with in deer season, it was hard to do 'cause these guys are RELENTLESS when one of us goofs up. Last year(2010 season)I drove out to where I park, got all my junk and headed out for the tree. Sittin' about 3 hours, all at once I hear a limb snap a ways off in the fencerow, I thought "that did not fall from a tree" and sure enough a pretty nice 6 pointer hits the field and starts easin' across. I put my gun up, safety off, got on him and had second thoughts about burnin' up a buck tag so soon. He got a little farther away, then I thought" why not" and pulled up on him again. But by this time he hit the edge of the woods and was goin' in, so I stopped and went"oh well". Finished out the morning about 11:00am and headed for the truck. Got to the truck, went to unload my 3 slugs, and yeah you already know my damn gun was EMPTY!! Hunted diligently 5 1/2 hours with an empty gun!! I laughed at myself for the rest of the day, not to mention callin' myself several names like "dumb a_ _, etc. 42 years of deer huntin' and that is the first time I ever did that.All I can say is I'm really glad that the deer of my lifetime didn't step out, 'cause if that would've happened I definitely would have loaded it and shot myself. Just thought I'd share this heartwarming story with all of you.

PS: I did kill this one the following morning, 107 yards runnin' like crazy tryin' to catch his girlfriend. I actually loaded the gun this time!!

haha! good story.... I think we can all atest to something like that happening. I can't recall how many times I forgot my binocs or release or even quiver!

Well you came clean and i have forgotten parts of my climber before,really delays ya when you gotta climb back down for a strap

Well I actually forgot my bow at the house one morning this year
started unloading the gear till I realized I was forgetting something important luckily I was hunting only a couple miles from home

True story here, one of our buddies, not me, actually levered all his shells on the ground at a buck, would have been his first, never fired a single shot. Another one set his, wife purchased, brand new Browning insulated boots too close to the fireplace and burned the toes right out of them. I have left my release at camp and had to make two trips. During my Dad's last trip, he was getting pretty bad by then with lung problems, he pulled a bad one, he said he wanted to test his safety and pulled the trigger at 6:oo am in the dark in his tree stand. I though the worst had happen. So I had to walk back to his stand, dreading every minute, and there he was up there embarrased but ok! How about flintlock hunting and forgetting to prime the pan, nobody does that do they.... How about loading the patch and ball only to remember you didn't load the powder.

Boy we are gettin' on a roll now, everybody's jumpin' on the wagon and fessin' up!! This is almost as good as Spiker's "Dumbest Athletes Poll". Except for HM's scary moment with Dad, the rest of the stuff is hilarious. And even HM's deal turned out to be funny, Dad thinkin' the trigger was the safety in the dark. I could see me doin' that-hell, I already like huntin' with no ammo, why not actually load the damn gun and light up a few rounds in the dark???
