Id like to hear your guys' thoughts on rattling, like when and what kind of cover you usually do it from. Any scents recommended? im anxious to try this technique this year and looking for input.
Rattling is very effective if done correctly, and there are a lot of bucks in the area. Just remember only rattle when you are sure that the buck or bucks responding can't see your movements.
The closer the buck gets, the lighter that you rattle. I usually will rattle loudly for a few minutes then watch for 10 or 15 minutes. Repeat the process as necessary.
To encourage a buck to come in, even more, place some buck urine in the area, and if possible use a dummy deer.
Bang the antlers on the ground and scratch the ground with the antlers also. The more realistic that you can make it sound the better.
Use ground cover to your advantage, and always watch behind you, as they often will sneak in from behind.
A deer uses his nose to stay alive, and they are quite successful more times then not.
Hope this helps
Well thank you for your input. I am definitly interested in trying this. I bought one of those rattle bags so i dont make too much movment with antlers. And i will be looking at scents tomorrow ;)
I start around the 1st of nov.I use a small set of horns and rattle for a a minute or two then wait. This has been the most productive thing I have ever tried durring the rut.I have had them get underneth my stand and me not see them.Mature bucks will usually come in with their ears laid back and their hair standing up on their necks walking stiff legged. There is no wrong way of doing it.But it works !
thanks 260, im really getting excited about this year. Do you use scents when you are rattling as well??
