Moving to California, how is hunting there?

My work is relocating me to CA. How is deer hunting there? What strategies are used?

I have a 12GA shotgun (essential tool to hunt around Milwaukee, they don't allow rifles). Do I keep it or sell it?

I have a 13ft portable ladder stand (it's portable, so I can take it in or out for a day, and it's not too high). Do I keep it or sell it? Will it work in CA mountains?

I have a Yugo SKS... Well, that's a no-brainer. I will never castrate a good firearm for politicians sake. I'd rather sell it.

Please help me, my heart is crying for 2nd day in a row. There's no "next season" for me here in the places I learned how to hunt.

well I'm not going to lie to you, there's going to be a BIG difference between Wisconsin and California that's for sure. Starting with weather. You're going from a place that sees maybe 3-4 months of warmth a year to a place that sees around 10-11 months a year of warmth and heat. Deer typically are stronger in numbers from the midwest and the northeast on up north towards Canada. You just don't hear alot about California Whitetails. However, they are there though, your hunting is going to be tougher though. Another thing I have heard is that if you do see whitetails out in california they are not as big as they are in the midwest/northeast/northern part of the U.S. Good luck to you, and have a good time in California,,,Gob bless!

Im sick for you. That would be the last place I would want to go. I am clueless about deer hunting in California.
