Rifle Scope recommendation Please

I recently bought a Mossberg model 100ATR 30.06 for my son and sighted it in. It was a "Kit" gun at Dicks. Came with their "Store Scope" No brand Name on it. I paid $300 for the gun and scope so obviously am not worried about impressing the jones'. However I just don't like the scope. Now I am new to rifle hunting and not real familiar with the Brands or whats good and whats not but want to replace this scope with a reasonable quality one. This one has thin dull cross hairs I want something more vivid but I don't want to pay more for a scope than I did for the gun. What should I expect to pay for a decent scope. and what would you recommend?

Nikon Prostaff 3-9x40 or a Redfield Revolution 3-9x40. Both are reasonably priced and have had great reviews.

I've seen the Nikon Prostaff for like $139 at walmart.

When I bought a rem 710 3006 at dicks a few years ago it came with a Bushnell scope. It was a kit setup as well. No name on your scope????

I have one of the Nikon Prostaff on my Muzzlerloader and have zero complaints about them. Around $150 for that scope.

Most places will let you look through the scopes before you buy them too... just ask them and find one w/cross hairs you like.

Nikon scopes are the way to go. You will see farther and clearer. As mentioned about though, ask to see through them before you buy and pick what suites you best.
