"i've had deer pass a 3 ft while on the ground."

I had the same thing happen to me early in the season. The little wind there was that morning was in my face. I was "out there" well before dawn and it was that time between "first light" and sun up when a nice 6 point ambled along side my open "blind". I heard something over my left shoulder and when I glanced that direction, I saw the buck and froze in place. When he got even with me, something made him aware that I was there because he kind of jumped sideways a little before just simply wandering on off. With the 'new' TxDP&W standards, he was too small to shoot so I had no choice but to watch him go.

My opinion was that he had just become awake from a good night's sleep and hadn't had that first cup of coffee to wake himself up yet. Either that or he had a lot of other things on his mind . . . like does. <grin>

But that's just my opinion and/or my $.02 worth!

swirling winds or thermals could have busted you, always use a wind checker the spray/dust style is what i use ,you will be surprised at how the wind varies from time to time and hour to hour.i use mine all day long

And last phase, we must manage this resource so our children and their children can experience the grand tradition of good deer hunting." - Jim Slinsky
