I agree with some of that wmi but I also believe a deers nose can be fooled sometimes and I think you do too otherwise why would you use any sort of scents on your hunts whether they're masking or luring scents on a drag. we use them to try to trick the deers nose,,, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I think urine and again, whether it's our human urine or another animals it's going to affect the deers routine in one of two ways, It's either going to have a positive or a negative affect, Personally I've only seen positive affects.
We learn by trial and error, I pee in scrapes Just to learn how the deer will react and everytime I do, I always have a buck come right back in within a day or two and freshen that same scrape. So I guess all I can say from my personal experience is, Human urine will not affect a deer in a negative way and if i thought for one minute I might be wrong I wouldn't say it because the last thing I want to do is offer advice that could ruin another persons hunt.

Yes Bruce I use DEER urine. This however is not what I was really referring too. Deer are attracted to strange smells and curiosity has killed many deer. We need to keep in mind the BIG picture though. In the real world for most of us is hunting pressure, other hunters---MANY hunters that are hunting around or in our hunting areas. All it takes is one negative event regarding a certain scent in the life of a deer to put the animal on alert everytime it encounters that smell. Deer urine, acorn scents, honey suckle extract,etc... all have some or majority positive results in the life of a deer but human urine and or scent means but one thing ---death. Probably the biggest mistake we tend to make is forgetting about other hunters in the woods around us. Just because we might follow all of the proper precautions about scent and wind does not mean the rest of our brothers do.
In early season we can get away with many more mistakes regarding scent and sound but as season progresses the window of error becomes smaller and smaller at an alarming rate (pun intended). If you really want to up your odds and extend your season in your honey hole you must keep it void of human scent of any kind as possible. Change your travel routes to and from your hunting locations often. If it was possible to be 100% scent free deer can scent the disturbance caused by human foot steps, no other animal in their environment leave such a large track. All of this being said why would we tempt fate by urinating around our stand much less anywhere around our hunting property---too lazy to carry a bottle?
When we go hunting the most important thing we all have on our mind is to see deer. Many will say different with comments like " I hunt for the outdoor experience"------HOG WASH. Hunters are there to hunt and hunt means killing something after all that is what we are there for.
The cool thing about this site is the number of new hunters on here both young and old. I look at it as my responsibility as a seasoned hunter (over seasoned) to help these new comers be successful even if it sounds like over teaching. Lets face it none of us are professional hunters here but there are a lot of darn good hunters here with tons of knowledge to share.
I have heard Charley Alsheimer himself state that he has urinated in ACTIVE scrapes with positive results but I have also heard him say never anywhere else or outside the rut. I don't do it at anytime but then again I have never gambled at a casino or bought a lottery ticket either.

maybe its not the urine that would alert deer so much as what is in it. drink a coffee and answer the call. or eat asparagus. you sure can smell that and there aren't many other critters eating coffee beans in our neck of the woods. all urine turns to ammonia in time but what else is in urine? everything our bodies don't need, cause there's to much, or it doesn't want it. so why take a chance for such a simple remedy.

i think i asked the question here once before, i believe, about changing ones diet before the season. I read somewhere about dropping the red meat and spicy foods weeks before the season opens helps with scent control or maybe certain smells.

This kind of stuff to me is what makes Hunting so special No two hunters seem to hunt the exact same way or believe in the same two things but we can all have a successful hunt as I have said in many other threads I am not a trophy hunter I enjoy the outdoors & hunt to put some of that delicious veni on the table so I just go out & do what I do & most years I put that deer on the table for the family. so don't get me wrong I know how good a deer's hearing, eyesight & nose are but seems to me they can be just as stupid if you will as we can all have a successful hunt by hunting different ways

Whether it helps or hurts the scent issue, I make it a point not to pee anywhere near my stand.

Default do what you have to do but smart

If you have to pee and haven't got a bottle, you have to do it. Right? So, do it downwind at least. That's how I was advised by more experienced hunters.

By the way, it did not spook the deer on that single occasion where I was happy to see the deer. And I never had to pee afterwards, so it wasn't my urine again why I did not see them deer later.
