Crunchy Snow

This year and last, the last Saturday of the regular gun season has brought 4 to 5 inches of frozen, crunchy, snow. This year we got 5-6 inches of snow on a Wednesday. When the snow quit falling it warmed up the 45F and rained for a little. By Saturday, the temps were in the teens, freezing all the water in the snow. The snow covering the ground is now impossible to walk on quitely. Every step brodcast your exact location loud and clear to all deer around and after 3 Saturdays of gun season, the deer move only out of necessity.

Have any of you found yourselves with these conditions and what are your strategies for deer hunting in them?

It's like walking on CornFlakes. You got 2 options, walk and push the deer to other hunters OR sit and wait until they browse your area... I always just sit tight and wait.

Good Luck to you.

Happens to me all the time here with the darn snow/melts a little/rains/freezes. I try not to walk in the stufff but even trying to get to my stands can be a terror to the deer.
