Treestand safety harness

I need one...any suggestions on a cheap one? Also do you all believe that 15 feet up is efficient for tree stand placement?

Have you checked with Gander Mountain or Bass Pro shops for safety harness?
If you're able to sit still and scent down really well I say 12' - 18' is perfect a lot of others may say to go a lot higher but when you begin to go above the 18' range you're entering into the natural umbrella of the woods and limiting your viewable range. I believe it's better to see your hunting area as best you can but If you go too high with your treestand you're going to miss some action. Good Luck

if you buy a cheep harness you wont were it. iv got two and never were them. the stand i hunt out of you would have to want to fall out of it for it to happen. but if i ever switch stands im gona get me one of them nice harneses that you just put on like a vest.

I know safety is not somthing to go cheap on but the stand i have for the next few weeks is basically just the bottom piece of most stands. I just purchased a new gun and funds dont allow a new stand for about 2-3 weeks.

Bass pro seemed really pricey...to me $120 is alot for a safety harness.

with the cheep safty harnesses, its not that they arnt as safe as the nice ones, it is that they are anoying to put on and take off and they are uncomforable.

You sure don't want to skimp on safety. Opening week of bow season here in Florida 2 people fell out of stands. 1 without a harness & 1 that just had the around the waist belt. 1 died other still in hospital. Please use one and use a good one. Be safe.

It doesn't matter how uncomfortable the harness is.. WEAR IT. My father in-law fell out of his 12" treestand 8 years ago. He is now confined to a wheelchair forever. He too said he could never fall out from his stand. I agree that the more money you spend, the more convenient it is to use.

I went out and bought everyone in our hunting party the cheapies after his tradgedy.

i'm one that will totally disagree. i find more holes in the canopy the higher i go. it keeps my scent above the deer when they are in bow range. less chance of them picking me out. and i can see farther. but to each their own. go with what you are comfortable with.

oh and check wal-mart they have them..........sometimes.

It's ok to disagree but you also said you "find more holes in the canopy the higher you go" which basically means your obstrucing your viewable range by going higher.
You Also gotta keep in mind the higher you go, the shorter your shooting circumference at the base of your treestand.

Your way of doing it ronn works well for you because you worked your way into this stand placement that you now use but when you started I'm sure just like all the rest of the bow hunting world your stand was probably between 12 and 18 feet high just like the rst of us because that's what was explained to us years ago.

So I guess for the sake of the new bow hunters & youth hunters that visit the site, I'm more comfortable getting them into the 12 to 18 foot range and when they gain more experience maybe they'll want to try it higher, that'll be totally up to them. JMO

oh yea i couldn't go that high when i started. even though i climbed our fd's 100 foot stick.

not sure what you mean about shortening. 30 yards level from the tree at a steeper angle means aim even lower. as in shoot like 25. 40 yards level with a steep angle is 35 and so on. even though thats to far to shoot i feel. so in reality i've extended my shootable range.

anyway he asked for opinions now he has 2 that are opposites. i'm sure things are real clear now. grin.
