Northern VA Eight Point - 2008 Rifle Season
 

Hi all,

Went out Saturday morning and got lucky. I shot this one at 0630 North of Leesburg, VA, on wet, overcast and rain-threatened hunt. Just as the light got good enough to shoot something, this bruiser walked out of the woods and down the hill toward my stand. I'm pretty sure he was tailing some does I'd heard splashing through the creek minutes earlier. He's the best buck I've ever shot, and I also found the bullet later when I was skinning him.

The Bullet
 

Here are some pictures of the bullet. It's a .270WSM 150 grain, fired from approx. 50 meters. The deer was quartering slightly toward me, so the slug took the long way to the other side, then got trapped in the hide.
