Default Tree stand.......

I was just wondering how high the average hunter places his tree stand. I was hunting out of a 16 ft ladder stand and the deer seemed to know i was there. I have since raised it to 35 feet. I havent hunted it yet but hope to go this evening.

35 feet, little to high for me. I have 2 ladders set up where I hunt at about 17-18 feet has worked well in the past.

I hunt 25 to 35 depending on terrain and leaf cover. You have to practise from that height to make good clean kills. Do not hunt that high unless you have practised. (BOW)

well i hunt a 16 ft tree stand... its not more or less how high u are... it depends on the area your hunting on alot... but make sure u cover your scent very well... if you do that and your quite your chances of not being noticed will be greater... also if u can wear camo im such a stron beleiver in wearing camo if i can while hunting... it helps alot... i had 3 doe come within 20 yards of me and they never knew i was there.

Default depends

I like to get real high if Im gun hunting but bow hunting not so much. I like to stay around 20 to 25 ft bow hunting. Also depends on the tree and the wind. You get 35 ft in a tree with a strong wind you may have a 2-4 ft sway in your tree. That could make it very difficult to make a shot with any distance.

You guys are right. It comes down to using common sense and reading the existing conditions at the time of your hunt. More than once I have adjusted my height do to weather or finding out come light that my kill zones are impaired.
