Understanding The Rut

This link to Deer Hunter TV with Charlie Alsheimer is a great Video to help a hunter understand the Rut...
If you want a better underdstanding of the Rut, watch this video over and over again, Even though it's a 2007 Video,
it is still FULL of valuable information to help hunters understand the rut better.

According to the Rutting moon This Year (2008)
the "peak rut" is going to be Nov. 20th which means the "rut" will start 12 days before the "peak rut" so the rut will start on Nov. 8th 2008
it will end 12 days after "peak rut" which will be Dec 2nd 2008.

Note: the pre rut starts on the first full moon after the fall equinox which this year is Oct. 14th

Charlie is a wise man most of his stuff is geared for us northern folks but he also does a breakdown for below the ol mason dixie line

Now therefore take, I pray thee, thy weapons, thy quiver and thy bow, and go out to the field, and take me some venison.
Genesis 27:3 "The thinking deer hunter should mature through three phases during his hunting life. First phase, "I need to kill a deer." Second phase, I want to harvest a nice deer. And last phase, we must manage this resource so our children and their children can experience the grand tradition of good deer hunting." - Jim Slinsky
