Cool Knock Down Power of 30-30

I just bought a Winchester 30-30 to add to my collection. How does the knock down power stack up against other riffles?

this is a good read on "knock down"power"
a 30/30 is a great whitetail rifle IMO. I never believed you need Mag. calibers for deer hunting

I always said if Laws were passed to ever restrict whitetail deer hunting to only one caliber, I hope they pick the .30-30

The 30-30 is not a trendy or sexy pick as a deer hunting rifle. But the facts were written in stone over 100 years ago about just how good a deer cartridge it is. Bullet makers have had a long time to perfect bullets made just for the performance of the 30-30 and most all loads for it are tuned perfectly to the velocity and ranges it's capable within.

Find which 150, 160 (FTX) or 170gr bullets seems to perform best in your particular rifle. Sight it in about 3" high at 100 yards and you will have a very capable deer killing tool from muzzle to about 200 yards or so. Good Luck!

That's an understatement. Back when I was growing up in PA, we had endless arguments in school at deer season over .30-30 or anything else. As stated above, it's a very efficient and capable rifle on deer at approximate ranges. I have one and love hunting with it.

have a couple of 30-30's and still take one to PA for bad weather hunting. I enjoy carrying a light weight rifle

I took 16 deer with one.Shoulder shots took them down.Lung shots, they would go about 50 to 75 yards but would be well bled out which I preferred.
