Default what do you all think about this situation

Hello ya'all, Im a new member to the site and really enjoyed looking around and seeing all the good stuff posted in here. Thanks for such a good site. BUT, I got a senerial that really peeves me off that Id like to hear feed-back on. I live in northeastern ohio and theres not alot of land that people are willing to let you hunt up here and its like pullin teeth to find a spot. But we got a game reserve that runs from where I live in Canfield all the way up to the top part of Warren. Its huge and driving around it you always see huge "and I mean HUGE" bucks. The problem being that it is a reserve so no hunting which I can respect as deer need somewhere to go to feel safe I guess,BUT I found out this year that the mahoning co. sewer dept actually owns the land and the dept. of natural resources takes care of it. No big deal huh, well check this out--- The dept. of sewer and sanitation are allowed to hunt these areas and we are not. What message is that sending to me---well, for all the hunting liences's I buy, for all the hunting equipment I buy, for all the stuff that the ODNR takes money out of it to keep the land and all replenished and all the things nice in areas like this, well someone else is hunting all these huge bucks that I see and Actually help feed(with buying all the stuff I do). Is it right for the peoples money to be used on this land for the property people to be getting FAT off of it????????? As the site says, its all about opinion and I definatelly have mine. The ODNR put signs up saying ABSOLUTELY NO HUNTING AND FISHING. so why are the sewer and sanitation people alloud to hunt it. Its like me putting money into a food plot that I cant hunt. Just thought Id share this situation with some fellow hunters and see what they think about it. I know nothing will ever get done about this but I felt it would be a good topic to discuss and let fellow ohioans know what some of their money supports!!!!!!!

Well before I give you my input there's a few things I'd like to know first.

What's the name of the Game Reserve you're talking about?
How do you know it's being hunted?
Have you talked with an Ohio Game Warden about this?
Is this something that's just come up or has this been a standing issue for years?
and lastly If you're sure the employees are hunting that Game Reserve legally, have you contacted the Manager of the Sewer Dept. to ask for permission to hunt on their land?

Welcome to the site T-Han. Before you say or do anything make sure that all the issues are accurate and true. That way you'll have more weight on your side when it's time to come forward. Also, my questions are the same as BruceBruce1959.

Not necessarily true,
As mentioned by timberghost and BruceBruce, it is imperative you have your facts straight.
Make the time to perform due diligence on the existing arrangement.
If your final conclusions still demonstrate as you claim, a specific form of favoritism is taking place, there is a wealth of public officials, district reps, local and state congressmen/women, and publications, you can approach with your valid information.
Repost what results you come up with, I would be curious to hear what you learned.

you could do the above or put in an application to work for the sewer and sanatation people just a part time to get your foot in te door kinda deal. i am jk. we kinda have the same situation here in memphis with a place called presidents island you have to put in for the tags and EVERY year only cops get them. and it is a fact! the place has MONSTER bucks because they get absoluty zero pressure untill bow season and then there are only 30 tags so they just lay low for a week and the cops shot the first thing that walks buy and then they are safe for the other 48 weeks of the year. my father and i have put in for the tags 6 years straight and neither of us has drawn yet. and no lie it's cops every year that get the tags. sorry to vent i just know how you feel.

Hello guys, nice to hear from you'all. Well bruce- its called Meander Fish and Game reserve. And I was hunting the fellas property that was right next door to it and Ive seen numerous people going in and out of there. I decided one day to stop one of the fellas and ask them what was going on. I thought maybe they was giving out special permits to hunt the spot(as I call it) and he said no that only the sewer and sanitation dept. can hunt it. And just this year my son went to the edjucational hunting course and the big guy for the ODNR was there and I pulled him aside to ask a few questions without really trying to ruffle any feathers. And he said that hes been buttting heads with the ODNR "higher ups" for a few years now over the game reserve. He said that its definately overpopulated and is going to be trouble if they dont open it up for a few seasons to clean it out. And the overpopulation doesnt only include deer, coyote, rabbit squirrell, it seems as if all wildlife flocks to this place.WOULDNT YOU!!!! ha-ha. But at any rate, he said that the sewer and sanitation dept. has something going on with the higher ups and them being alloud to hunt is totally out of his hands. So I dont know who really to believe in this senerial but it sure dont seem right. AND to top it off, its hard to hunt any adjacent farms to it and catch the big boys comming in there because all the little rich guys will lease out all the land around the reserve so no-one else can hunt it. Its a bad senerial but its life I guess, I just thought Id see what some other fellas felt about the ordeal. As a blue collar worker I guess Ill be stuck with the public hunting land and the tiny minys until I hit the lotto!!! wish me luck.

Greetings T-Han and welcome to the site. Sorry i'm late in responding but i's still hunting (Muzzleloader) season here in vermont.
I searched high and low for any information about the Ohio "MEANDER" Fish and Game reserve and I can't find any reference at all to such a reserve.
What I would suggest is contacting some of your local hunting clubs and speak with their representaives about it, make them aware of what's going on, Don't be afraid to ask for their help. I would also talk with your local Game Warden ask them what's the deal on that property or contact the ODNR Wildlife Divsion directly.
When all else fails, call the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service
You ABSOLUTELY want to ruffle feathers, If your facts are correct, the Ohio hunters should be aware of what's going on with their hunting license funds.
Good Luck

IMHO if it is private property there is very little you can do about the arraingement. It could be that ODNR is manageing for other uses than hunting. If there are other recreational uses like horse back, ATV, hiking, wildlife veiwing or whatever it could justify their involvement.

If it's something you want to really check into I would contact the dept directly and get there response. There are probably public meetings where they get input about policies you could attend. Get involved and if there is a good ole boy tit for tat going on then take it to your state congressman. It's amazing what the guys that pull the purse strings can do.
