How many tree stands do you use?

I have noticed in the past few years I spend a lot of time pre-season and post season putting out and picking up stands. That's not to mention the 7 or 8 permanent in tree and ladder stands I check and rebuild every year just in case.

I have three of the metal ladder stands out with one on standby going in this weekend. Plus I have three Summit climbers two of which are on the trees and one I keep at home ready to go.

My wife says I have a problem and need to get some help. :)

Let me share with you what I think about all your treestands.
First of all you obviously scout your area very well and you're setting up around what you think are the best hunting locations, That's great but what you're doing is crowding the deer's home range you may have 2 or 3 stands set up in locations where the same Deer family units (Deer herd) travel. I understand that sometimes deer are on the other side of the field or spending more time down by the brook or hanging out more by the ridge (just examples) So what I'm saying is while you're in one stand (Stand A) they may be at the other (Stand B) so you decide to go to stand b the next day and now they're back over at stand A. Deer live within a certain range and always stay within that range. My advice is stick to the stand which you think is the hottest and no matter what the deer do,,,,, they will eventually be at your stand. does this make sense to you?

yeah bruce i think it depends on how big of an area he hunts. On a 47 acre place i hunt i have one permanent stand and then use my climber if I want to move. On our lease which is over 400 acres plus i hunt the backside of some public land. I have 2 hang on stands plus I use my climber. I wish I had more stands. I am hunting mountains and valleys. So I like to have some stands high and low and would like to have some at the areas where they cross the fields to get to another ridge. I could use 2 more stands no problem. Now dont get me wrong you can have to many stands. I place mine so far apart that the deer I see from one location I probably would not see from another.

Another reason I like to have stands in place is because I am hunting some steep stuff. Some mornings I have a 20 min walk up hill the whole way. If i was hunting some more level stuff I would not worry about it as much. I could just carry the stand in with me each time.

I have 6 stands on 100 acres that i hunt and the reason is the wind. i have tem set up in spots where if wind is bad for one stand then i can just walk an extra 100 yds and be in perfect shape. i also have some set up for bow season and some on the edge of fields for gun.

I usually only use 1.....but I think next year I will use my ladder stand like usual and maybe try to get into my climber when things are slow in the ladder.

I guess I should have said I have close to 9,000 acres of private land to hunt. I still do "crowd" some areas to take advantage of the wind but I try not to over hunt an area even if there's a good buck.

I know some guys that wouldn't hunt from a climber and some others that don't want ladder stands. To me it's about being in the right spot, so I will use whatever it takes even if I have to sit on the ground.

The one type of stand I don't use is the strap on stands. I guess I never had a need for it.

Man Buckshot go get some help man! NAH, JUST KIDDING. I think the more the better because you can play the wind easier with more options. But then again you don't want to over hunt any area. I have 2 hangers that looked to be in great locations back in September but lost value with the extreme hunting pressure, we're talking hunters convention man. But I usually put all my trust in the old Summit climber which is an awesome climber stand. It allows me to go into some unreachable areas good to get away from most hunting pressure. But there's this one 15 ft ladder stand out in a large scrub field near a creek that must've been abandoned cuz I can come and go at will in that stand. With a South wind this stand is awesome, I haven't seen a big buck but many small ones and alot of doe groups only with that South wind.

Yeah buckshot with as much land as you have I dont think you have over done it on your stand amounts!! I wish I had that much to choose from. I bet you spend alot of time trying to figure out where your going to hunt.

yes i agree treestands and many of them are a good thing.. some stalkers dont realize the advantages they can give you

It is spread out over 14 or 15 tracts in SE TN. Parts of it I have never seen. I spend most of my time on 3 tracts. I don't own it I just have access to it either through hunting clubs, familiy or friends.

As far as figuring out where to hunt, it was so hot here last summer and on into fall I didn't do the scouting that I typicly would. I have found most of the sign this year just carrying my stand in on an afternoon hunt and walking till I would find buck sign and just put up there, mark it on the GPS and go back in the AM.
