Rookie hunter in need of help

Hello all. I am as new as they come to the hunting community. I have never hunted in my life. For some reason I have an itch to shoot a buck. I live in central Florida and would like to hunt somewhere nearby to start. Ocala National Forest looks like as good a place as any, however I have heard some negative things about some that hunt there. Territorial disputes mostly. Being a new hunter I am bound to piss people off but I don't want to piss off the wrong person. Anyone have some areas they would recommend? I would prefer public land.

Hey buddy and welcome to the DHC. Just be sure to do your research on hunting public lands and have all the ins and outs. I'm not too sure as to how one hunts public land.

A good place to start is always your state fish and wildlife websites, here's a link to Florida's (WMA's) wildlife management area's with maps that show public hunting areas... Florida Outdoors Recreation Information for Florida Visitors and Tourists
Don't be afraid to contact your wildlife officials, they are usually willing to offer as much help as possible, their contact information can be found on the state fish & wildlife websites.

Good Luck & Welcome to the deer hunters club.
