I'm a little late to the show on posting but better late than never! Hunted the Allegheny National Forest with my father-in-law and brother-in-law. This was the first season in years that the bil was in the woods. He was about 40 yards away from his dad. At about 8 o'clock, a group of 9 deer came through and the bil had a buck in the scope of his .30-30. He just happened to look up and there was a bigger buck (an 8-point) off to his right. He slowly turned without spooking him and dropped him drt with a shot to the neck. I don't know if that was where he was aiming but it did the job. This was his first deer ever.
Around 11:30, a buck came busting along the creek bed about 100 yards from where the father-in-law was sitting. He took a crack at him with his .300 Savage and dropped him. It wasn't a fatal shot but about a minute later he was able to get up on him (he was down and couldn't really run at all) and he put another shot in him to keep him from suffering. After he expired, we checked him out only to find he was an 8 as well. Michael, the bil, was out of the woods for a bit to unpack so I got to see the happiness in the form of tears in Mike's (fil's) eyes. I haven't gotten a deer yet this season but getting to see all of this sure made a special day that definitely trumps filling my own tag!
Time for some pictures! The first one is the father-in-law's, the second being self explanatory, the third is the brother-in-law's and the final is one of the greatest moments I've gotten to see in a long while!
