Two More Rookie Questions.........
Two more Rookie questions, based on yesterday's trip to the Firing Range for the first time with the 45-70:
A) Nevermind..........I answered this one myself.........lol.
B) The Marlin 45-70 holds 4 rounds (according to the Specs). 3 in the mag
and one in the Chamber. What's the correct way to load the 4th round?
(I found that I had forgotten, first off, that the lever has to be closed
in order to load any rounds into the mag, and then I was left with
a conundrum. If I opened the lever FIRST, and put a round in the
chamber, and then closed the lever to load the other three, then I'm
in a hazardous situation, because the hammer is cocked. If I load
the mag first, and then attempt to open the lever, the gun will
advance the first round into the chamber from the mag).
I'm assuming that I should:
1. load 3 rounds into the mag
2. open and close the lever, advancing one round into the chamber
3. add one more round to the mag.
This is precarious as well (doing it the 1,2,3, way just described) because either way, I've ended up with a round in the chamber with the hammer cocked!
Obviously there is a "safety" and I should be using it (of course) until I'm ready to fire, but ...........can you apply the safety BEFORE the hammer gets cocked??
I started another Thread in here, talking about how I was going to start a video series on my experiences (after all, it had been 30 years since I fired a weapon, and I had NEVER actually hunted yet), and if you are interested, there are 4 installments already uploaded to YouTube, starting with this one:
So You Want To Be A Hunter, Part 1 - YouTube
Hope ya'll (those of you in the good ole USA anyway) had a great "Thanksgiving!"
I would go with what you are saying. Load the 3 round mag, load one into the chamber and then add another round to the mag.
Or just side load 3 rounds and don't ADD a fourth.........lol.
This is true.....
