When should I hunt this set
I put in a new set up for Bow hunting last friday. I have for a few years had oly one stand on my 160 acre tract of land. Having just taken up bow hunting and having 2 sons who now hunt I decided to go look for a second location to set up a hub style grund blind. I found a clearing under some trees on the south eastern side of my tract that had some good activity. Even had a doe walk out on me while i was setting up at 2pm. I hung a 6 gallon feeder fero a tree along the trail and placed the Hub blind up 15 yds from the feeder and trail surrouded by cedar trees. because of the depth into the field I figure getting in before daylight will be tough but as an evening spot it might be good. HOw long should I wait before hunting this set?
you mean how long to wait after you set it up? Well I would wait a couple days if you were in there making lots of noise. However, if you get a good rain, I'd got right after that b/c rain will wash all your scents you left behind away. Remember also, deer are curious creatures. There are SOME deer out there that have never smelled humans therefore they are curious. Now, that said, MOST deer consider any foreign smell as DANGER.
I like your setups, especially the second one- I can't even see it!
I heard something interesting the other day- when you are in the woods setting up stands and stuff- make as much noise as you can- with tools, chain saw, cutting, etc.. NOT with your voice per-say. Deer know that farmers run equipment so to them they are used to hearing machines and work being done. If you try being really quiet it always A. never works and B. can spook them to leave the area if they happen to come upon you while working. --- just a thought
