Full Metal Jacket Prohibition?
 

Talk to me folks. Teach me. Why is hunting a deer with a "full metal jacket" either against the law, or not wise? Is that why there are Poly tips on my rounds; to satisfy that regulation, but also keep a jacket (even if it only covers a percentage of the bullet) around the Lead to keep less Lead deposit in the rifling grooves?

The use of full metal jacket bullets are prohibited because they are less likely to make a clean kill and are more likely to ricochet and therefore making them more dangerous. - Aimee@MDC

ok what are you guys talking about here? I've heard the term before, full metal jacket, but that referred to a magazine that was fully loaded. My Remington 742, .30-06 has a small magazine that holds 5 bullets.

Maybe I'm missing the mark- ??

A full metal jacket bullet is a bullet that is completely encased in a jacket. There is no exposed lead or hollowpoint. When it hits the deer it will not normally expand and will not do as much damage as an expanding bullet. Therefore less likely to make a clean kill. This is why the Geneva convention specifies full metal jacket bullets for war. They will not do as much damage when they hit a person.
