Is this round adequate for deer?
 
I have a Ruger Blackhawk .45 Colt/.45 ACP convertible. I would like to take a deer with it. Would my Speer 45 Colt 250 grain Gold Dot HP be adequate for deer up to say 50 yards?

I would use the long colt before the acp,But yes it will take a deer at that range.Our you putting a scope on it?

I also have .45 ACP hollow points, but I definitely would use the .45 Colt Gold Dots. I don't have a scope on it but I believe I can keep in the kill zone up to 50 yards with it.

"Long" Colt rounds definitely, .45 ACP doesn't have enough speed to penetrate a deer's thick skin.

It will be alright as long as you stay within 50 yrds. or less,I use a 357 Blackhawk 158gr. and have no problems.Just be sure of your shot ,GOOD LUCK

I wouldnt use hollow points for deer.........
