Was wondering if the following round would be enough to bring down a deer --
I have a Ruger BlackHawk .357 with a 6 1/2 in barrel. Pistol is almost 35 years old and the only modification made is putting Pachmayr (sp?) grips on it. The standard wood grips left the little finger curled underneath the frame so I wanted something that provided better grip.
Remington .357 Core Lokt Hunting Round in 165 grain.
Velocity Muzzle 50 yrds 100 yrds
1290 (fps) 1189 1108
Energy Muzzle 50 yrds 100 yrds
610 (ft/lbs) 518 450
The deer show up somewhere between 50-100 yards at my place. Have never considered using a pistol considering the number of rifles I have in varying calibers. Saw the round today on Remington's website and just wondered . . . . .
Your thoughts???
