Late summer/early fall?

For PA what would be the best late season planting? I use to plant all late spring/early summer but things have caused me to have to try a late season planting of something. I would like it to be good for the deer not just an attractant. Last times I just mixed, clovers, chickory, brassicas but short grow time table excludes brassicas. What do you guys that are in the know suggest. PA soil, heavy clay that I can get worked up pretty well, the area was an old pasture many years ago. Thanks.

I like oats for winter food here, i dont know how they do so far north

potential early frost could be a problem. I was thinking something like throw & grow for a quick green-up maybe mix in some clover???

Hm ive used the easy plot from evolved harvest with good results.If there is any rain this w.end or next week im gonna seed this w.end on a logging road spot i plant on.Most of these quick annuals grow because this one is mostly rye grass and some brassicas but you get limited brassica growth.

Oats take frost and freezes with out missing a lick and it stays green and growing with snow on it here .
I'm sure there may be a low temp point but i haven't seen it
