Hey all, I am planning on starting a 1 acre food plot in a field that was previously a cow pasture. I got a soil test done last fall so I know what my plot needs. I was thinking about planting some winter rye later in the year but am not sure what to put in this spring. Also wanted to know what site preparation would be best to keep the weeds down. Any help on when to plow, spray, plant etc. for the NE would be appreciated. Thanks
Nothing like a disk for weed control
If you can get some round up soy beans you can keep the ground clean and have food for the deer
Early fall you can disk them down to plant the rye and fresh beans will grow until frost
Ok Thanks...I will have to look into soybeans...I know deer love them..Do you have experience with planting soy beans? The problem is there are alot of deer in this area (currently trying to thin the heard) and I am worried that with a one acre plot they would eat graze the plot to hard before the beans could mature.
I grow beans every year , i had a 1 acre plot last year that never got 6" tall the deer kept eating the tops off but the beans kept putting on new tender growth for them to eat .
