Upper Michigan Food Plot
My camp is in the UP of Michigan. I had a soil test last year. PH was real low and I put about 4 tons of lime on an acre. I should be over 7 now. In the fall I put on 300 lbs or annual rye. Had a great field. Never got high cause every day ther were 20 deer out there (mostly does and fawns and a few small bucks).
Come May 1st I want to get a perennial plot going. Plan to turn the rye over and ....here's the question ...do what? I know whatever I plant will include a couple varieties of clover but what else should I put in there? Looking to have something that's strong in spring, good in summer, and strong LATE into the fall.
Any suggestions appreciated.
How big is your plot? I've hunted a lot over by Gwinn and Marquette and down by the Ford river, where are you in the UP? Brassicas mature in the fall and the deer hit them after the first frost. Once the plants are gone they will paw and eat the giant bulb in the ground.
