It does need some rain. There isn't much chance this week until tuesday @ 20%. Hopefullly it can survive until we get some. I don't have much trouble with weeds in the fall/winter plots. The spring and summer plots are a lot worse to control them in. i do not spend the coin to try to keep them weed free in the summer, I just let them go. Deer will still pick the good stuff out, but some of it will get choked out. I think next year I will fight the sandburs a little more...I hate those things. I have heard that a healthy dose of MSMO will help hold them back.
Delbert, I used a John Deere standard drill with 10" spacing. I really needed to smooth it out a little better, but I just ran out of time. Some of it planted too deep, and other spots didn't get into the ground (and the turkeys cleaned that up). Overall I am happy with the way it turned out. I just wish I had started a month earlier preparing the soil.
