late PA planting

Could use some help. I'm going to have the use of a big rototiller and 4 WD tractor again next month and was wondering what I could plant that might grow quick and provide some winter feed? I'm just going to strip till for now and plant something and hit it all next spring. This will be a short growing/ sprouting time period so no sense wasting $ on high cost seeds. Thanks for input.

HM If it were in TN I would say Winter wheat is your best bet. I would imagine that PA would be good for it as well. It is fairly inexpensive at $12 a 50lb bag and 1 or 2 bags per acre will provide a lot of forage. Crimson clover is also inexpensive it's less than a dollar a pound and 5lb over seeded with the wheat will do an acre and will provide the wheat some nitrogen when it gets up a little.

I am going to keep an eye out for a tiller I think that would be the way to go.

Thanks buckshot. The one I borrow is called a King Kong cutter, pulled behind a Kubota small diesel 4WD. The tiller is I think a 60" model. Does nice work on the yellow clay soil I have to work in.

If Oats grow that far up its cheep and the deer like it
