Chufa?

I have a place in SW Mississippi that I just bought, and a friend told me to plant chufa there in June. He said that it would attract deer and turkey until next spring.
Is that correct? Does it work on both species?

I watched a show a while back where they were talking about chufa, If I remember right they called it "Turkey Gold". They didn't say anything about deer so I cant help with that part..
