chufa nuts for turkeys??
 

i hear that turkeys go crazy over chufa, anyone have any experinces with this stuff?

ive heard the same thing. and also all other types of wildlife also like it. like deer and squirrels. never used it before though

what are chufa nuts and are the safe to grow any where (none evaseiv (SP)

chufa is a nut like tuber that grows in the ground- its a golden nut that grows just under the ground and turkeys love to scratch em up! Quote from the bag! as long as its planted after the final frost it will mature in 90 to 110 days so i would assume you could plant it anywhere without a frost for 100 days straight! the bag give you full directions on planting and soil preperation and fertilizing instruction. A 9lb. bag is good for a 1/4 acre plot and i paid $20. once it looks like we will be out of the freeze possibility in the northeast i will be planting this stuff and in 90 days we will see what happens!

saw an episode of getting close or something they were hunting over chufa.The turkeys were going crazy trying to get at the stuff:thumbup:

i planted a plot this spring,,,hard to keep the grass out,,,i top it with the bush hog...its a nut grass,,,its still growing....we will see.
