The deer cane is a mineral. It's not going to grow anything. (that is if we are talking about the same thing???) A good thing to plant for deer is turnips (i'm a big believer in them). What I do for my patches is I take 2 five gallon buckets and fill both buckets half full with loose dirt. then I pour my turnip seed in both buckets and I pour out one bucket into the other and then back into the empty bucket, back and forth until the seed is evenly mixed. Then hand-cast it on my patches.
deer cane is mostly salt I believe, so deer will migrate to it. I think there are better products than deer cane. The bagged sugar beets work great, also the apple chunks. Corn is always a good deer feed.
this past spring I put 2 bags in a 25ydx30yd area, it has come up well and now I get more action than ever on my trailcam
