30 lb thrust trolling motor good enough for a canoe?

Just bought a canoe and trolling motor last night.

Was planning on trying it out this morning but the thunderstorms have rolled in.

Just curious if any of you have used a 30 lb thrust on a canoe before.

From what Ive read and heard so far its a pretty good combo.

Will probably never have more than 800 lbs in it at a time.

BF, 30# will be plenty. I ran a 18# on a 15' Meyers sports pal canoe and pushed it fine with two adults in it. In fact on low speed I'd troll for Pike and walleye. Just get a deep cycle marine battery for it. I always had good luck with interstate deep cycle marine batteries.

Thanks HM..

I got a stowaway deep cycle. Cost me $99.

My point of getting the trolling motor is so I can make shorter trips to creek and river. I am hoping it will push me upstream. Its much to hard and Im much to lazy to paddle upstream on the river. Did it once because I was determined to hit a good trout spot again. Will most likely never do it again. It should give us the option to go fish the creek and part of the river and just come back the same way. No more having to leave a vehicle next to a bridge so we have a way home.
