Im always leary of catching spawners.ya know.the action is good but i wonder about the damage .so i try to release any females.I read that taking bass off the beds causes a high predation rate of the juvies..Its a personal dilema for me

Joel, most of the catches this early will be males. I start fishing post spawn about two weeks when the fish are hungry and strength is back up. All females should be returned during the spawn, but you know how people tend to look at an empty stringer. A lot of out of state fishermen take what they can get because of the monies spent. The DNR says only about 10% of the walleyes spawn in the streams so they're not hurting the population too bad.

I know what you meant and i fully agree. I highly reccomend catch and release as a great way to conserve resources and be able to return for another day of fishing. Canada has placed slot limits on many of their fish and quite a few lodge owners have a strict catch and release only policy. Here in Ohio the limits of perch and walleye have been reduced also. How about you, seeing any reductions in limits or slot sizes imposed on fish?

oh yeah used to be no limit on perch now its 50 a day almost all fish have a size requirment or slot.I practice selective harvest.Im a pretty goofd fisherman so if i kept everything i caught the lake would be in trouble.I usually keep some panfish or a trout for dinner the rest go back after i take a picture if its BIG
