Need help on night vision optics.
I hunt alone and have pretty much given up crossbow hunting over leaves from too many deer lost to lack of blood trail (and they just don't taste the same if found the next morning).
I've been thinking about buying a night vision monocular that would help me find my deer.
I called a reputable company that sells everything optical and they said I wouldn't be happy unless I spent $2,000 on a FLIR Scout PS -24 Digital Thermal Imager. I would greatly appreciate any opinions.
sorry I got nothing for ya on this
Same here. Only thing I could think of is if you want to see perfectly at night then you'll probably have to pay a fortune for state of the art night time eyes.
NVs aint going to do what you want. To do what your looking for you will need to get a FLIR. You can get them in scopes or handheld units, just be ready to drop some serious coin.
Try hunting in the morning :coffee:
then you have all day to track if needed
Using a crossbow should result in accurate quick kills. If you are wounding deer then something is wrong with your shot placement or equipment selection. Patience for the broadside double lung shot is the single most important thing a bow hunter should learn. When hit through both lungs the deer expire very quickly, in seconds. Usually the deer will be be less than 60 yds from your stand. The only other shot placement that bow hunters like to use is the quartering away shot. The problem with that shot is the arrow can hit the opposite leg and bounce back in some, preventing an open exit hole for blood, thus poor trailing. This is why I like the broadside, high entrance low exit shot, no wasted meat, excellent blood trail and short expiration time for the deer. If you can't get the shot let the deer walk away and return another day, your frustrations and wounded deer will go away.
HM Very well said
seems to be a problem I have been there too in the past not wanting (or thinking) to let the deer walk i seem to have a lot more patience as I get older still have a hard time sitting all day though LOL
gfd2, age has it's benefits in some areas!
