Good luck Tator, your family will appreciate knowing not only you did it for yourself but for them also.
As long as we're asking for help, I have a request. Having many digestive/plumbing problems that I fear are a really bad signal. Doctors have run tests but no big "C" has been found, yet. Medicine has had no effect and the pain is pretty bad. If you have a moment and can pass along a small prayer to the big guy I'd really appreciate it, thanks HM
No prob HM... done! And thanks guys for your replies to my request,, I appreciate it.
For those of you who care... I found a neat website on "How many calories do I have to eat to maintain my current weight". Basically, it tells you according to your weight, sex and activity level, how many calories a day you are eating to stay at the weight you are at. I am currently 289 pounds and I'm Moderately Active so I'm consuming 5386 calories a day!!!!!!!!! It really opens your eyes. It also says that if you eat 500 calories less a day, you'll lose 1 pound per week. I think the average calorie intake for a moderate active male is around 3,000 to 3,500. That's hard to do. I have a sheet that I made on Microsoft Word that helps me track what I've eaten and how many calories each thing was. I've found this is the easiest way to lose weight because you are inputing the information into the sheet so it's making you think about what you eat and how much you eat. If you joined weight watchers or Jenny Craig or something like that.,,, that's their whole basis. they have food counters that do it for you, but if you go to a bookstore (like I did) you can pick up a calorie book for under $10 and save your money from joining a club like those two.
I want to thank you all for your prayers. I'm telling you all, this is day 5 of my diet and it's going really well. I put on a pair of jeans last night and had to wear a belt... NO LIE. I've been combating hunger with drinking lots of water. It also gives me less headaches (from the disuse of caffeine a.k.a. diet coke) and it just makes me feel better to drink lots of water. I've had more energy this week like no other!
I also have noticed that my lunches are much more appropriate. In the past my lunches were around 1,500- 2,000 calories a day. I've dropped that to around 800 and I'm not so sluggish and tired in the afternoon. I do make sure I eat right at 5pm because I'm hungary as HECK and because I don't want to eat anything after 6pm. I've been running twice and i have an indoor bike that I ride. The first day of my diet I consumed just over 4,000 cal, but every day since then i've been under 3,000.
JUST A SUGGESTION-- I heard about this from a colleague and tried it one day and it worked:
Fry up 6 eggs in a skillet - NO salt or pepper (or use very little) and eat them. You won't be hungray for over 6 hours.
Well this week so far (starting Sunday) I have lost 10 pounds. The belly is slowly going away and the energy level is slowly increasing. I have to admit though, my quads are killing me from the exercise. I have ran about 4 miles this week and rode over 6 miles on an indoor bike. That's my goal is to get some sort of exercise once a day.
The other thing I have done is keep my calorie intake below 3,000 per day. Monday was the only day that I was above that (4,200). Every day since then has been under 3,000. I just keep drinking water and that helps with the hunger when thoughts of food pop up. Drink WATER! lol
