Angry Pink Slipped

After 14 years of working for the same company, got a phone call this afternoon from one of the managers up the food chain telling me that my position has been terminated due to "budget cuts".

14 years and I get 1) a phone call and 2) no warning. You'd think that someone with this much longevity would get treated a little better. Oh well . . .

But at least they did offer a decent settlement package instead of nothing at all, and I can't complain about everything I've gotten from them while there. Got almost 60 grand in education benefits while there! ! !

Time to get out the old resume and revamp it.

Wish me luck!

RR

sorry. that really stinks. i agree, letting some new guy who has only been there a month know he did not have a job any more over the phone takes very little class. letting someone of 14 years go over the phone, with no warning takes a complete lack of class.

It sucks.. But have no fear.. A man with your resume is not going to struggle finding another J-O-B..

Good luck with your search.

Ahem.. Retire early is always another option!

Some people call it "information technology" and others call it "network administration". But bottom line, it's making computer information systems work from the computer itself to the network that the information travels on. (routers, switches, radio systems, etc.)

I was in the Army Signal Corps for 20+ years and that's what makes the house payment, so it's not like I have $0 for income. But I certainly cannot "live" on just the retirement check alone.

I was in the Signal Corps in the Missouri Army National Guard. That was my job, running the wire, making the road crossings for the wire, installing the phones etc.... It was fun at our annual training because our job lasted about a day and a half then we got to sit around and do nothing except for relaxing and watching movies! We'd have to go fix problems here and there kinda like we were "on call", but everyone else would have to work their butts off all week long and work long hours. I did hate having to lift those spools of wire up and cranking them when it was time to pick up and go home.

Rdrader,
Sorry to hear about your "bump in the road". How about a different angle?
Now God can put you in that real job that has been waiting for you all along!
You've just been in training for it. It's all good in the end.

Sorry about the loss of your job RR. They could've given you warning ahead of time instead of just tossing you out like. Like BF said, it won't be hard for you to land another job, especially with the military service. Good Luck.
