Anybody else have a love for single Shots? Whether it's a flintlock, H&R break action 12 Gauge or a Ruger Number 1, I am just drawn to them. There is something about having a light and simple weapon that appeals to me. One of my favorite guns is a Winchester single shot bolt action .22 long rifle that my grandfather owned. I think it was a model 1900. That is a great gun. Numerous little kids have learned to safely shoot and handle rifles with that gun. It even fed my Dad and uncle during a backpacking trip in the 1960's.
I would be better off if my flintlocks had multi-barrels However, I do like the simplicity of a single shot and Browning makes some great looking single shot rifles.
Have a single shot .410 shotgun. Use 00 buck in it as my primary defense gun against raccoons. Seems that them critters have a serious aversion to lead. Mama had to get one when I was deployed overseas. She tried using my pump pellet gun and had to "upgrade" when the pellets bounced off of one raccoon's thick skull and it charged her at the back door. It didn't do so well when she was armed with the shotgun the next time the two of them met. Mama won! <grin>
Glad to see that are a few people who are fond of the singe shots. A .410 shot gun is one that I don't have, but want to get some day. My grandfather had a Savage over-under .22-.410 that I used quite a bit growing up. It was a great little camp gun. I think that the Rossi Tuffy would be the one I pick next. It only weighs 3lbs and holds four shells in the stock.
I don't know if I "love" single shots but I have a few of them. One is a Remington model 6 22 S,L, and LR. The other is a Marlin model 101 bolt action single shot 22 S,L, and LR. My last is a Knight KP1 with a 223 barrel. That one is giving me accuracy problems, not really sure what the deal is. I get a lot of vertical stringing with it. I'm shooting reloads with 55gr Hornady soft points and H4895 powder.

A double barreled flintlock would be really cool to have. Something in say .62 caliber with short barrels.
