D-Day Remembered

I wish that I could take credit for the following, but can't . . . .
I found it over on the Guns and Game forum.
In memory of those who fought and died on D-Day 1944

In memory of those who fought and died on D-Day 1944
Well I haven't seen a thread yet and it is of course D-Day June 6th of 2011.

On June 6th 1944 men younger than most of us here gave their all to liberate a continent from the strong grip of the Nazi soldiers. We owe everything we have to those brave young men most of them younger than us .These young men's actions created a better world for all some giving their lives for a belief held deep.

Any moment now

The noise ... it will begin
As bombarding ships and rocket ships
Send their salvos whistling in
Any moment now
These landing craft will move
Making for the beaches
Defenders ... to remove
Any moment now
There will be many a silent prayer
As these craft attain the beaches
So close now ... see them there

Any moment now
Men and craft ... they will be hit
It is then ... we'll be required
To show we have true grit
Any moment now
I will be watching comrades fall
Be ready Lord ... above the noise
Listen ... for my call
I do not know if I will cope
Please ... stand by me ... show me how
I'm going to need you ... more than ever
Any Moment now

I think we should all take a moment to bow our heads and say a silent prayer for those who left their bodies on the beaches in what has been called The Greatest Crusade in modern military history.

The soldier stood and faced his God Which must always come to pass...
He hoped his shoes were shining Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, you soldier, How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek? To My Church have you been true?"
The soldier squared his shoulders and Said,"No, Lord, I guess I ain't...
Because those of us who carry guns Can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays And at times my talk was tough,
And sometimes I've been violent, Because the streets are awfully tough.
But, I never took a penny That wasn't mine to keep...
Though I worked a lot of overtime When the bills got just too steep,
And I never passed a cry for help, Though at times I shook with fear,
And sometimes, God forgive me, I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place Among the people here...
They never wanted me around Except to calm their fears.
If you've a place for me here, Lord, It needn't be so grand,
I never expected or had too much, But if you don't, I'll understand."
There was a silence all around the throne Where the saints had often trod...
As the soldier waited quietly, For the judgment of his God,
"Step forward now you soldier,
Walk peacefully on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in Hell."

As a career soldier, I'd like to thank you for you post! I do have a soft spot for military history and I can tell you that I planned my last flight ever to be on 7 Dec, Pearl Harbor day!
